Cat. #0015664: RICHARD JAECKEL

Uncommon vintage 10x8-inch black and white portrait, signed and inscribed in blue marker in the early 1980s.  In good condition, with one or two negligible crinkles to the lower border.  Stocky, no-nonsense character actor Richard Jaeckel was the quintessential villain in cowboy and war pictures of the 1940s through 1970s.  Following an auspicious debut in Guadalcanal Diary in 1943, he had a brief stint in baby-faced teenager roles before graduating to hotheadedness and unspeakable villainy in gems like John Wayne's Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), The Gunfighter (1950), My Son John (1952), Come Back, Little Sheba (1952), The Shanghai Story (1954), Cowboy (1958), The Naked and the Dead (1958), Town without Pity (1961), The Dirty Dozen (1967), and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973).  He was nominated for an Oscar for Sometimes a Great Notion (1970) in 1971.
